Dreaming

A thought hit me in church this Sunday:
Wouldn't it be nice if so many people wanted to serve in the church, that we had to turn some down?

“For you are called to freedom, brothers; only don't use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but to serve on another in love... Therefore, as we have the opportunity, we must work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.” Galatians 5:13; 6:10

  1. This post was interesting for me. The church we left insisted on hiring someone to due the job I wanted to do as a volunteer. They insisted that they had to have a youth pastor and the people of the church could not do the job. It is really painful to want to work within the church and be turned away. I am now at a church that welcomes and encourages help, but is not "needy". God is good and lead me to where I can minister to his people and be fed at the same time.

It is a strange thing to think that only the paid staff can be ministers and then that they have to do it all. It makes us consumers of our faith not participants.

  2. How true! That is the other side of the serving problem. Either we don't want to serve or we don't want to be served: They are equally bad. That is something I recognized when I had my back surgeries. I love to serve people, but have difficulty when people try to serve me. I've learned they are both pride issues at heart! And hinder all from fullfilling the potential God has for them.

  3. I struggle because of my particular ministry, I cannot get involved at church. At least I haven't found a way to yet. I've only been here 3 Sundays since Christmas!

  4. Yea Auny, but I think your and Brock's church is the group you do minister to in this aspect. It's your Party's With A Purpose group! In fact, I get concerned for you at times because I think you serve so much you get worn out! ;)
