Choices

This is flip-flop buying season! Every year we take the kids to pick out a new pair of two for the summer and they really looking forward to it.
Last year I told Lauren to find a style she liked as I was helping Elijah on the other side of the isle. When I came back around the corner, this is what I was met with. She had taken every prefer ed color and lay them on the floor in a semi-circle. She just couldn't decide on the perfect pair!
Now forward a few days, and I found myself at Lifeway trying to decide which women's study to do next. Topical or inductive; short or long; video or book only; Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, Lisa Whelchel, the list goes on! I was there it seemed hours!
It was then I began to wonder: How much time do we waste trying to find the perfect study? The perfect quiet time? The perfect song or "mood" to feel God? Just like the flip-flops, it doesn't really matter which. They all protect the bottom of your feet.
Pick a study! They all teach you about God. Just have a quiet time-He'll meet you there. Who cares if you're in the mood to feel His presence- I think He appreciates it all the more for the effort.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to find the right thing. Just don't waste too much time trying to find it!

Black and White

For those of you who don't know me, God has graced me with an abuntand supply of what I call "wisdom shining through", or white hair. I even had a lady last night who I met say, "What did you do to your hair?!?" Now, I've used this numerous times to talk about how God knew I couldn't afford to pay for highlights, so He took care of it Himself, but this didn't seem to be the right time for that.

The questions hit me as odd. I wasn't offended: It's not in my control. (Well, I suppose it could be if I had some Clairol.) It just made me think. My mother has told me numerous times that I only see things in black and white. And I've told her that I DO see grey- I just know it's made up of black and white! Well, I began to wonder...

Is that really such a bad thing?

So many things in the Bible are black and white. Either you love God or you don't. You either obey what He tells you or you don't. Either you consider yourself a slave to Christ or you don't. (Here's the one that steps on my own toes...) Either you spend time in His presence everyday or you don't. It goes on and on. We try and make too many things in our christian lives grey when they are meant to be black OR white.

So next time I look in the mirror at my black and white hair and think about covering it up I'll be reminded to choose the white!

Finding God

How are you at finding God every day?

Now, I'm not talking about reading your Bible and praying. We all should be doing those things. I'm talking about finding him while driving in traffic, fixing dinner, folding clothes, or mowing. (One of my personal favorites!) When you woke this morning did you ask God to teach you something new?

The funny thing about asking God to teach you something new daily, is the way in which He does!
  • He has taught me that He is my daily bread when fixing sandwiches and complaining about my wheat allergies.
  • I learned about predestination verses free-will in the board game Robo Rally. (I'll share that one later!)
  • I was reminded how eternal He is when Elijah, my 5 yr old, told me numbers have to keep getting bigger so that God can keep getting older.
  • I learned how much he loves to spoil us with the "miracle of the wheat thins"! (He let me eat some one day without getting sick!)
  • I learned how He even uses our mistakes to teach us a lesson, when I turned to the wrong verse, but it was exactly what I needed to hear.
  • I learned how I have to keep cutting out the sin that springs up in my life while mowing.

And on and on!

What has He taught you today?

In The Beginning...

God.

That's all I can say. And that I hope those of you who find this blog will be blessed by it.

I have to admit that this is a total step of faith. I have felt for some time now that God wanted me to use this outlet to both hone my writing skills and to share with others the abundant things He is teaching me in life everyday. The stumbling block is that I have no Internet at me home and I have noticed that the blogs people tend to follow most are the ones updated daily. But, once again, if it is to be, it will be!

This is where I hope to share with you what God places on my heart, and I hope you will let me know how He is working in your life. Please know that when God speaks to you in any way through this; it is by His amazing grace and perfect love that He is reaching out to you. If there is something you disagree with, let me know! I'm either wrong and would love to be corrected, or I have good reason to say it and hope you will listen as to why with an open heart. Let this be a journey together!

Since this is the first day, I thought it appropriate to start with Genesis 1:1. "In the beginning God created..." Isn't it nice to know that God always can give us a new beginning in Him? If He was able to make all things from nothing but His Word, He can create a new beginning in you. I pray that this begining will glorify Him!
